About Greenwich Community College
GCC now has a key role as a training provider for the development of Greenwich and the southeast Thames area.
Much of our focus is on service sector industries: - Sport, recreation and leisure - Travel and tourism - Health and social care
and we also provide courses in: - Business studies - IT - English language teaching (accredited by the British Council)
The College is a publicly funded institution in the London Borough of Greenwich, providing full- and part-time courses to approximately 14,000 students. The College is included in the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) Register of Education and Training Providers and is a British Council Education UK partner with UK language courses accredited by the British Council. GCC is also a partner college of the University of Greenwich.
Student support
In a recent student survey, 92% of our students said they had found the staff here helpful and friendly before they came and 93% said they had found our staff helpful and friendly during their time here.
The College offers a friendly, supportive environment providing vocational, professional, pre-university and university level education to students from its local area and around the world.
The College operates a tutorial system in which every student has the support of a personal tutor who helps in orientating you to the College, and to living and studying in London. International students also have a dedicated International Office.
Specialist counseling is provided by the College’s advice and guidance team who can help with issues ranging from careers, financial matters, housing and legal matters to health and personal problems.
The Students’ Union
(SU) of which international students are automatically members. The SU operates to support the cultural, social and sporting interests of the students. The sports facilities of Greenwich Borough are available at student rates, and provide a wide range of sport and leisure activities.
In addition to its focus on quality and employability, GCC maintains a policy of low fees, which range from £3,000 to £5,750 per year (until 2008).
Location
All travel and tourism, hospitality and sports sciences classes (BTEC, OCR and BSc) are held at Charlton Athletic Football Club (London Leisure College).
Our Centre of Vocational Excellence in Tour Guiding (City and Guilds) is situated at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich.
All music, DJ, music technology and creative and performing arts studies are held at the Meridian Music Centre (East Greenwich Library).
Our Centre of Vocational Excellence in Health and Social Care (BTEC) is located in our main centre (Plumstead). Most of our Access to University programmes (London Open College Network qualification) and IT programmes (BTEC and CISCO) are also taught at our main centre.
