Meher Nigar BA Accounting, Kaplan Holborn College Country of origin Bangladesh
Meher first heard about Holborn College when she met the Chief Executive Officer, Professor Bell,in Bangladesh. She liked the idea of studying a high-quality University of Wales degree whilststaying in London. Meher is about to complete her BA in Accounting.
The first impression I got here was that teachers in lectures are really good – they all inspired us to gain knowledge. Dr Siddique is especially good: he tells you where you go wrong, keeps an eye on you, just to look after you, and pushes you to the highest level. He cares about us. Ali Alpay is another example – really down-to-earth and inspirational. He taught us how to do apply the theory. I got 70% in his subject!
Living in London
London is a great experience: a city of my imagination! I am a huge fan of English authors and poets, and coming here has fulfilled a childhood dream. Living in the UK has given me a sense of independence. In India or Bangladesh, I wouldn’t have the chance to pursue my hobbies.
There is an emphasis on freedom here. Holborn College has helped me to fill the gap between my Bangladeshi education and UK education. It is an inspiring, friendly environment, a place you really are proud to have been to when you finish.
Samjana Thaba Pre-MBA, Kaplan Holborn College Country of origin Nepal
Samjana came to Holborn College on the recommendation of her friends. She wanted to study a course that would be recognised throughout the world and so chose the pre-MBA course, followed by the MBA, which is validated by the University of Wales.
Studying at Holborn College
I found the College to be a friendly and knowledgeable with a very multicultural environment. The teachers are very helpful and explain things clearly to you, and the English support is very useful. I enjoy the research we do here, which is totally different to our studies in Nepal. Here we also have coursework and presentations. The tutors explain things so clearly, and teach us how to do the right things in the right time, for example, how to manage our time – and even tell us about their experiences.
Experiencing the world from the UK
Coming to Holborn College was the first time I had ever left Nepal – it is a big change for me. I’m learning to manage my timetable, my accommodation and my job. I have made a lot of friends at the College, from Nigeria, Ghana, India, all over. This has been of real benefit to me because I have learned about their cultures, heard their native language and learned all about their countries.
