NEVRIL RIBREIRO India MSc Applied Biosciences
Nevril Ribreiro graduated from NTU in 2006 with a Masters degree in Applied Biosciences. He has recently started work at a leading multinational company, Unilever, where he is involved in central research developing new products using cutting edge molecular biology techniques: “I must say I am putting my entire knowledge gained from NTU to use in my current job. I left Nottingham Trent with the hope of getting a job. However, I never dreamt that I would be able to get a professional job in a multinational company so early. The company was so pleased to hear the techniques I knew. I want to be a leading scientist in my chosen field and believe I have already begun to climb the ladder to success. The learning atmosphere at NTU was very friendly. I could go to my professors at any time and ask them for advice. The seminars, poster and oral presentations we had boosted my self confidence. I now give presentations in my company without a second thought. I will never forget the staff at NTU who motivated me in many aspects. The social life I had has helped me improve my networking skills and I can now have conversations with people from all over the world without any hesitation.
I truly have no regrets in selecting Nottingham Trent to do my Masters Degree.”
PRIYA PATIL India MA Fashion and Textiles
Priya Patil graduated from NTU with a Masters degree in Fashion and Textiles in 2004. Since then she has gone from strength to strength working in the fashion industry as an Independent Designer. She recently launched her own Accessory brand “Priya Patil – Accessories for women”.
“Just six months after leaving NTU I got the opportunity of working with the New York based fashion house Alberto Makali. A year later I won the title of ‘India’s Creative Future 2007’ from the British Council. Since the award was covered by the BBC, it got me a lot of attention from potential investors. My career took a 180 degree turn after NTU. While I was in New York, I realized the difference between having NTU on my resume. The fashion industry in the U.S really looks up to U.K education.
I graduated from the National Institute of Fashion Technology in India in 2000. However, since I was more interested in western wear than ethnic, I realized I needed to do a fashion design course overseas in 2004. I knew that the MA Fashion & Textiles course at NTU was a one year programme beginning in January and ending in December, which was perfect for me. I had heard from other NTU alumni that the university gave students individual attention and had a great ranking, which helped my decision further. Also, I was fortunate to get a scholarship which covered part of my tuition.
The best part about studying at Trent was the style of teaching. It was no more a not really a student-teacher relationship but rather two individuals expressing and exchanging ideas. This gave me the ease and liberty to explore various fields that I desired. I went to the international coffee mornings every week and I think it was one of the wisest things I did, because at the end of the course not only did I embark on new possibilities in textile fashion, but I also took home with me some beautiful friendships with people from all over the world.”
