University of Leeds

With an international reputation for research and innovation, the University of Leeds is one of the most popular universities in the UK. Leeds graduates are sought after by employers across the globe, and our extremely wide choice of courses enables each individual to tailor his or her studies towards a chosen career path. Leeds is a vibrant and multicultural city. It offers students a cosmopolitan centre filled with café bars, restaurants, shops, museums, theatres and nightclubs. Frequently voted the UK’s most popular city to visit, Leeds is also one of Europe’s fastest-growing commercial and financial centres. Situated in Yorkshire in the north of England, Leeds is surrounded by beautiful countryside, including the spectacular Yorkshire Dales and Moors. The main University campus is situated in the heart of the city, just a ten-minute walk from the shopping centre.

Student life
Hobsons Study UK - Leeds University Union (LUU) lies at the heart of the campus, and is one of the most exciting unions in Britain, with over 150 student societies dedicated to social, sporting, cultural, religious and international interests. Among the most active international societies are the Singaporean, Chinese, Malaysian, Indonesian, Nigerian, Thai, Taiwanese, Brazilian and Omani student societies. Popular cultural and religious societies include the Buddhist, Islamic and Jewish societies, as well as the Christian Union and the Hindu Students’ Forum. For more details see www.luuonline.com

Accommodation
The University of Leeds guarantees a place in university accommodation to all international students paying fees at the overseas rate during their first year of study (provided reservation and payment deadlines are met). For undergraduate and foundation year students this guarantee extends for the duration of their studies.

Study programmes
The University is acclaimed worldwide for the quality of its teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Strong academic areas include the arts; biological sciences; business; earth and environment; engineering; health including medicine and dentistry; mathematics and physical sciences; performing arts; and the social sciences. The University’s international foundation year has seen students from over 65 countries successfully progress onto 106 different undergraduate degree programmes.

Scholarships for international applicants
The University offers a wide range of scholarships for study at Leeds for international students, from partial fee awards to full scholarships covering fees and maintenance grants and other allowances. The scholarships are very competitive and it is important to make enquiries and apply to all possible sources of funding at an early stage. It is suggested that students read information carefully and check the eligibility criteria for different scholarships and pay attention to the closing dates for submission of applications.
